The Nagarjuna Sagar dam in India’s Telangana state opened 26 crest gates on Thursday, August 29, releasing 3,45,795 cusecs of water to manage rising water levels. The dam’s management is releasing an equal amount of water inflow to maintain its capacity at the desired level. The dam currently holds a water level of 589.70 feet, nearing its full capacity of 590 feet. The heavy inflow is attributed to upstream releases from the Sri Sailam Dam project on the Krishna River. In a separate incident, a woman taking selfies with her family fell into the Nagarjuna Sagar Left Bank Canal near Vemulapally mandal headquarters in Nalgonda District. Locals quickly rescued her, highlighting the importance of caution around water bodies.
