The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported 48 confirmed cases of Mpox, out of 868 suspected cases, across 35 local government areas in 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The agency revealed this in its Mpox situation report for week 34 (August 25). While the report showed a rise in suspected cases, it also confirmed that no deaths have been attributed to the disease this year. The confirmed cases were recorded in Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, Delta, Imo, Edo, FCT, Anambra, Cross River, Plateau, Akwa Ibom, Nasarawa, Oyo, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Benue, Enugu, Osun, Kebbi, and Zamfara. Mpox is a rare viral disease that is spread primarily through contact with infected animals, but human-to-human transmission is also possible. The NCDC continues to coordinate the national response to the outbreak.
