The revamped Europa League kicks off with a Champions League-style format, and one of the most anticipated matches is the reunion of Jose Mourinho and Manchester United. Mourinho, now at Turkish club Fenerbahce, will welcome his former team to the Surku Saracoglu Stadium in an early-season clash. Mourinho led United to victory in the EFL Cup and Community Shield in 2016/17 and won the Europa League that same year, defeating Ajax in the final. This encounter marks the first time Mourinho will face United since his departure from Old Trafford. The Portuguese manager will be looking to make a statement against his former club, having failed to qualify Fenerbahce for the Champions League after falling to Lille in the third qualifying round. In addition to the clash with United, Fenerbahce faces other tough opponents including Lyon, Union SG, and Athletic Bilbao at home. They will also travel to face Slavia Prague, AZ, Midtjylland, and Twente. Other key fixtures include Manchester United’s trip to Porto, another Champions League regular, and a clash with Rangers at Old Trafford. Roma, led by former midfielder Daniele de Rossi, will be hoping to go one step further than last season’s semi-final finish.
