The Royal Moroccan Navy intercepted a boat carrying 168 migrants in the Atlantic Ocean on Friday. The vessel was intercepted off the coast of Dakhla, in southern Western Sahara, according to a statement from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), as reported by the Spanish news agency EFE. The rescued individuals were transported to the port of Dakhla and provided with medical assistance. The number of migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Canary Islands has been on the rise, with Spanish authorities reporting 29,031 illegal entries between January and July of this year. This represents a 79.5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to EFE. The majority of illegal immigrants (27,640) landed on the Spanish coast, particularly in the Canary Islands (21,470).
