The summer season is coming to a close, and for tourism professionals on the French coast, the outlook is mixed. While campgrounds saw an influx of visitors, reservations were impacted by poor early-season weather and inflation. At L’Églantier campground in Ambleteuse, the summer of 2024 did not reach peak occupancy until August. Reservations lagged behind due to the weather and rising costs. Similarly, Les Tourterelles campground in Rang-du-Fliers experienced a contrasting season. While the campground welcomed new visitors, the length of stays has been shortened, with more weekend getaways and shorter trips replacing traditional week-long vacations. The Hauts-de-France Camping Federation reports a 7% decrease in visitor numbers compared to the 2023 season. However, campgrounds are hoping for a late-season rebound with the upcoming good weather and last-minute bookings.
