U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Southern California uncovered a sophisticated smuggling attempt when they intercepted a truck carrying what appeared to be watermelons but were actually filled with methamphetamine. The driver, a 29-year-old man, was stopped at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility after crossing the San Diego border from Mexico. Upon further inspection, officers discovered over 1,220 packages of methamphetamine, weighing over 4,000 pounds, cleverly concealed within the fake watermelons. The drugs are estimated to have a street value of more than $5 million. The driver was taken into custody, and the tractor-trailer and drugs were seized. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to combat drug trafficking and prevent dangerous substances from entering the country.
