Mediators Push for Gaza Ceasefire: Negotiations in Cairo and Doha

Mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States are actively working to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, holding meetings in Cairo and Doha to finalize a comprehensive agreement. The proposal aims to address key demands from both Hamas and Israel, including a multi-week ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, and humanitarian aid. While a significant portion of Hamas’s demands are incorporated, including the release of Palestinian prisoners and humanitarian assistance for Gaza, some contentious issues, like the withdrawal of Israeli forces from specific territories, remain unresolved. Negotiations have also focused on the number and identities of prisoners to be exchanged, with Hamas proposing the initial release of 33 elderly or medically vulnerable hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel.
