Mauritius tourism experienced a significant surge in the first half of 2024, with over 624,000 tourists visiting the island, representing a 35,591 increase compared to the same period last year. France retained its position as the primary source market, with 155,937 French tourists visiting the island, a rise of 8,939 from the previous year. Other key source markets also experienced growth, including the United Kingdom (66,551), Reunion (64,155), Germany (51,244), and South Africa (47,916). Notably, a large percentage of tourists from the UK, France, Russia, Switzerland, and Germany arrived on direct flights from their countries of origin. Tourists from China and the Netherlands primarily transited through the United Arab Emirates, which served as the most frequent port of transit for these travelers. In terms of air departures, passenger numbers rose significantly from 824,102 to 880,786, with a notable increase in departures by Mauritian residents.
