Manchester United have strengthened their squad with the signing of 18-year-old defensive midfielder Sekou Kone from Malian club Guidars FC. The young talent, who was also sought after by other Premier League teams and European clubs, is seen as a future first-team option by Erik ten Hag. Kone will initially be integrated into the club’s U21 set-up, allowing him to adapt to English football. The Malian midfielder impressed at the U17 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, reaching the semi-finals, and contributed two assists at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup. This signing marks United’s fifth acquisition of the 2024/25 season, following the arrival of Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, and Joshua Zirkzee.
