The persistent waterlogging problem near the High Court in Lucknow is set to be addressed with a new drainage system and redesigned canals. IIT Roorkee engineers, who conducted a survey in January 2024, have developed a plan to improve the drainage infrastructure in the area. The current drainage system covers only 45 acres, inadequate for the area’s growing population. The new plan will expand the coverage to 237 acres, addressing the root cause of waterlogging. This project, estimated to cost around 200 crore rupees, will benefit an estimated 1 million people in the area, including residents of Indira Nagar, Surendra Nagar, and Patel Nagar. The project is expected to be completed by June 2025 if the government approves the budget and the tender process begins in November. The project will not only focus on new drainage channels but also include redesigns of existing canals in the Gomti Nagar area.
