Lebanon’s National Media Council Joins Protests Against School Fees Hike

The President of Lebanon’s National Audiovisual Media Council, Abdel Hadi Mahfouz, has announced the council’s support for the popular protest movement in Tripoli and the north against the increase in school fees in public schools. Mahfouz urged the Minister of Education and Higher Education in the caretaker government, Dr. Abbas Al-Halabi, to reconsider the decision, arguing that it will increase the burden on poor families. He emphasized that such a decision would lead to the exclusion of a large number of students from attending school and push them towards complete illiteracy, especially since public education is free according to the Constitution and existing laws.
