German manager Bruno Labbadia has reportedly withdrawn from his agreement to coach Nigeria’s national football team, just days after the appointment was announced. The decision comes as a surprise, especially after Nigeria’s football federation confirmed the appointment. Sources suggest that Labbadia’s concerns about organizational matters and a hasty approach to the agreement led to his change of heart. The former Bundesliga coach has experience with prominent clubs like Hamburg SV, VfL Wolfsburg, and VfB Stuttgart, and this would have been his first coaching role outside of Germany. Nigeria, hoping to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, had targeted Labbadia to lead their campaign, hoping to build a team around stars like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Victor Boniface. However, the three-time African champions now face the challenge of qualifying without the German coach. Despite their current standing as second place finishers in the recent Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria currently sits in a precarious fifth place in their World Cup qualifying group.
