The Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has ordered a reshuffle in the police department, appointing new Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in four districts of the Valley. The move comes ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the region. Imtiyaz Hussain has been transferred and posted as SSP Srinagar, replacing Ashish Misra. Zahid Malik has been appointed as SSP Baramulla, taking over from GurinderPal Singh. Ghulam Jeelani has been transferred as SSP Kupwara, replacing Shobhit Saxena, while Ifroz Ahmad has been appointed as SP Handwara, replacing Dawood Ayoub. This reshuffle follows a larger shake-up in the Police department on August 16th, where 33 IPS and JKPS officers were transferred before the Model Code of Conduct came into effect ahead of the elections.
