Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, has demanded transparency in the Koovam River rehabilitation project. In a letter to Chennai Mayor R. Priya, Chidambaram highlighted the river’s severe pollution over the past decade and the state government’s allocation of ₹750 crores for its revitalization. While acknowledging the government’s efforts, Chidambaram expressed concern about the lack of clarity regarding progress and challenges. He requested a comprehensive white paper detailing all projects undertaken, their objectives, timelines, costs, and outcomes. The letter also emphasized the urgent need to address the discharge of untreated sewage into the river, which contributes significantly to its pollution.
