Oh Ye-jin, a student from Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, has been celebrated by education officials after securing a gold medal in the 10m air rifle event at the Paris Paralympics. Oh, who began her athletic career at the age of 14, won two titles in the 104th National Sports Festival and recently graduated from Jeju Girls’ Commercial High School. She secured the gold medal in the Paris Paralympics, setting a new Olympic record of 243.2 points. This marks the first time a Korean athlete has won gold in the Olympic air rifle event. The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Education Office lauded the efforts of Oh’s coach, Hong Young-ok, who has supported her since her high school days, as well as the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Sports Federation Chairman, Yoon Jae-chun. The education office expressed its commitment to fostering future athletic talent by actively supporting school sports clubs to encourage the emergence of athletes like Oh.
