Jasper County residents gathered in Prairie City this week for the first public meeting about a proposed $6,400,000 bond issue to fund a new maintenance building and shop for the county’s Secondary Roads Department. The meeting, held at the Prairie City Community Building, provided an opportunity for residents to learn more about the project and ask questions. The bond referendum will be on the ballot on November 5th. County officials have emphasized that passing the referendum will not result in a tax increase. Instead, the bond proceeds would replace existing debt coming off the county’s books. A second town hall meeting is scheduled for September 19th at Lynnville City Hall.
