Starting September 1st, Italy is implementing stricter measures to combat fraud associated with its popular construction bonus programs, including the Superbonus and Bonus Edilizi. This initiative follows the June publication of the Decreto Sanzioni, which aims to streamline tax penalties for fraudulent claims. Previously, penalties ranged from 30% to 200% of the compensated amount, depending on the nature of the fraud. The new regulations reduce penalties to 25% for ‘non-entitled’ credits and 70% for ‘non-existent’ credits. This shift signifies a more nuanced approach to tackling fraud, focusing on greater accountability and a more efficient system for managing these valuable tax incentives.
