Istanbul to Get 2,500 New Taxis: Safety Features, Training, and Licensing Requirements

Istanbul is set to receive 2,500 new taxis, with details about their features and licensing procedures now being revealed. The new cabs will feature safety barriers between drivers and passengers, and drivers will be required to undergo training and certification through Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Transportation Academy. Ride-hailing app operators will be required to meet certain criteria for licensing, including sharing data with the municipality. Istanbul currently has three firms with licenses, and several others are awaiting approval.
