Following two gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Paris, Mark Malyar is aiming to become the third Israeli athlete to win gold, or at least a third medal. The 24-year-old swimmer, who won three medals at the 2020 Tokyo Games, qualified for the 100-meter backstroke final this morning and will compete for the medal this evening. Malyar finished second in his heat with a time of 1:07.73 minutes, qualifying in third place overall. Only Kote Kubota from Japan and Inigo Sanz from Spain clocked faster times. Malyar won bronze in Tokyo and two gold medals in the 400-meter freestyle and 200-meter individual medley. Shmulik Daniel finished first in the singles rowing consolation round with a time of 9:22.47 and also qualified for the final, which will take place tomorrow.
