Shchar Milfelder and Salah Shahin, an Israeli rowing duo, commenced their Paralympic journey with a strong performance in the qualifying heats of the double sculls rowing event. The pair, competing against teams from Turkey, Ukraine, China, and Ireland, secured a second-place finish in their heat with a time of 8:07.24, earning them a place in the medal race on Sunday. This marks the first Paralympic Games for both athletes. Milfelder, a former basketball player, underwent surgery for the removal of part of her left pelvis due to illness. She served in the Israeli Air Force as an instructor and officer. Shahin, an Israeli-Druze, served in the paratroopers and later worked as a security guard at the airport. He was injured in a terrorist attack in 2005 at the Karni crossing on the Gaza border. Despite enduring multiple gunshot wounds to his left leg, Shahin bravely fought back and neutralized three terrorists. He later discovered his passion for rowing after returning to sport following his recovery.
