Irish swimmer Roisin Ni Riain claimed Ireland’s first medal at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, securing a silver medal in the S13 100m backstroke final. Ni Riain, a Limerick native, finished with a time of 1:07.27, placing second behind the winner Gia Pergolini of the USA, who clocked in at 1:04.93. Meanwhile, Ellen Keane narrowly missed out on a medal in her fifth and final Paralympic Games, finishing fourth in the SB8 100m breaststroke final. Keane, who won gold in Tokyo in 2021, started strong but couldn’t maintain her pace, finishing with a time of 1:24.69. This marks the end of an incredible Paralympic journey for the Irish swimmer.
