India has denied any responsibility for the recent floods in Bangladesh’s Feni district, attributing the disaster to heavy rainfall. India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Ranjan Jaswal, stated that the country is willing to consider new mechanisms or arrangements to help Bangladesh manage floods, suggesting that these could potentially reduce human suffering. While acknowledging the devastation caused by the floods, Jaswal emphasized that the allegations that India’s opening of the Dumur dam caused the floods are unfounded. He also criticized a recent CNN report on the floods, calling it misleading and inaccurate. The spokesperson stated that the report ignored the regular exchange of information between India and Bangladesh regarding water management, a practice conducted under the framework of the Joint Water Resources Management process. Jaswal further clarified that the floods were a result of exceptional rainfall in Tripura and Bangladesh, not the opening of the dam.
