Hungary’s population continues to shrink, with preliminary data for July 2024 revealing a decline in births and an increase in deaths. According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), only 6,793 children were born in July, a 13% decrease from the same month in 2023. Meanwhile, 10,044 people died, a 2.8% increase year-on-year. The number of marriages also decreased by 14% in July. The natural decline in population was 3,251 in July 2024, a significant increase compared to the 1,966 recorded in July 2023.
