A prominent member of Al-Azhar’s International Center for Electronic Fatwa, Mr. Arafa, highlighted the paramount importance of honoring parents in Islamic faith. He asserted that this duty holds a sacred place, second only to the belief in God, as outlined in the Quran. He explained that Prophet Muhammad, when asked about the most virtuous acts, emphasized the primacy of faith in God and His messenger, followed by filial piety and then jihad (struggle in the way of God). Notably, the Prophet prioritized respecting parents over jihad, as evidenced by his guidance to Muslims seeking to engage in jihad. If they had living parents, he advised them to return and care for them first, signifying the profound importance of honoring parents in Islam.
