Heavy rains pummeled Hokkaido, Japan, in the early hours of August 31st, causing widespread flooding and a landslide on the Doto Expressway. The downpour, attributed to a front, brought record rainfall to the region. In Yubari City’s Kashima district, a staggering 82.5 millimeters of rain fell in just three hours, setting a new record for the area. The landslide occurred on the Doto Expressway between Oiwake-machi and Yubari IC, although thankfully, no vehicles were caught in the debris. Authorities are warning residents to remain vigilant for potential mudslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and other weather-related dangers as heavy rain is expected to continue throughout the day.
