Starting September 1st, Greek citizens will face stricter tax compliance regulations. Even an unpaid parking ticket issued by the Municipal Police will block the issuance of tax certificates. This change, implemented by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE), links tax certificates directly to municipal debt records, ensuring real-time updates. Individuals with outstanding municipal fees or fines will be prevented from obtaining a tax certificate, while those with cleared debts will enjoy expedited processing. The AADE emphasizes that this new system simplifies transactions for both citizens and businesses. The new system is part of a wider move toward a unified economic certificate for individuals and businesses, scheduled to be introduced in late September. This single, digital certificate, accessible online, will replace current tax and insurance certificates, combining both types of verification into one document. It will be accepted across both public and private sectors. Individuals can apply for the certificate online, and it will be issued automatically after verification of their financial standing with the tax agency and social security funds.
