The Israeli Ministry of Health has announced a groundbreaking new system for obtaining sick leave certificates, aiming to streamline the process and free up doctors’ time. Starting September 1st, individuals will be able to apply for sick leave online through their health insurance provider’s website, app, or phone hotline, without requiring a doctor’s signature. This new process is expected to reduce the burden on family doctors, allowing them to focus on patient care. The system will allow individuals to apply for up to four days of sick leave per application, with a maximum of four applications per year. For longer periods or exceptional circumstances, individuals will still need to consult with a doctor. The Ministry of Health’s goal is to improve community healthcare by alleviating administrative strain on doctors, enabling them to dedicate more time to patient needs.
