Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to establish an emergency force to counter coups and terrorism in West Africa. Speaking at the 2nd Africa Security Conference and Exhibition in Accra, Akufo-Addo stressed the need for a strong deterrent to prevent further instability in the region. He believes a dedicated force would act as a powerful deterrent against those seeking to destabilize the region through unconstitutional means or those perpetuating violence through terrorism. Akufo-Addo emphasized that the presence of such a force would have been a powerful deterrent against the recent surge in coups and the spread of terrorism.
