A shipment of 113 boxes, weighing 1.1 tons, of fresh Malaysian durian, including the sought-after Musang King variety, arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on August 30. This marks the first import of fresh Malaysian durian to Guangzhou since the country granted access to Malaysian durian in June. As the world’s largest importer and consumer of durian, China is also Malaysia’s biggest export market. Previously, Malaysian durian was only available in China as frozen or processed products. Due to the stringent requirements of ‘100% tree-ripened’ for Musang King durian, its shelf life is shorter compared to frozen durian, demanding a fast and efficient logistics chain. To facilitate smooth and efficient customs clearance, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Customs proactively engaged with relevant companies to understand the import plans for the first batch of fresh Malaysian durian, providing guidance on the entire customs process. Plant quarantine experts were also deployed to conduct thorough inspections. The durian shipment successfully passed through the customs clearance procedures and was transported to the market for sale within 12 hours, thanks to Guangzhou’s well-established air transport network and efficient customs processes. The import of fresh durian signifies a new era in the durian trade, enabling consumers to enjoy the freshest durian directly from Malaysia.
