Former Uruguayan President José ‘Pepe’ Mujica, known for his humble lifestyle and political activism, has been released from the hospital after being admitted due to kidney complications stemming from his cancer treatment. The 89-year-old former guerrilla leader, who served as president from 2010 to 2015, was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in May and underwent radiotherapy until June. While the cancer is reportedly under control, the treatment’s side effects led to a deterioration in his kidney function, necessitating hospitalization. Mujica, who has been described as ‘fragile’ by his doctor, is now recovering at home and is expected to make a full recovery.
