Ayed Loumi, a former leader of the Heart of Tunisia party and ex-member of parliament, has been released from detention by Tunisian authorities. Loumi was initially arrested and imprisoned on suspicion of irregularities related to the 2019 presidential elections. The public prosecution at the Ariana primary court had authorized his detention on July 13th, based on a search warrant issued against him. The former parliamentarian was placed under investigation following a complaint filed against him by the Independent High Authority for Elections, alleging he had provided material or financial donations to influence voters during the 2019 presidential campaign, while he was a member of Nabil Karoui’s campaign.
