Flamengo has officially signed 23-year-old winger Gonzalo Plata, who previously played for Sporting CP between 2018 and 2021. Plata, an Ecuadorian international, joins the Brazilian giants from Al-Saad in Qatar, with Flamengo paying a reported fee of over 8 million euros for his transfer. He was part of the Sporting CP squad that won the Portuguese league title in 2020/21. Plata has signed a contract with Flamengo until August 29, 2029. He will be looking to help the team achieve a historic treble this season, winning the Brazilian Serie A, Copa do Brasil, and Copa Libertadores. Plata previously played for Independiente Del Valle and Valladolid.
