A former Conservative MP, David Duguid, has claimed he would have won the recent Westminster by-election in Aberdeenshire North and Moray East, a seat that was lost to the SNP. Mr. Duguid, who represented the now defunct Banff and Buchan seat since 2017, was barred by Scottish Conservative officials from running in the July 4 election due to health concerns. He had suffered a spinal stroke earlier in the year and contracted pneumonia, experiencing two near-death experiences. Despite his health challenges, Mr. Duguid maintains he had the necessary support and recognition among constituents to win the seat, particularly given his incumbency advantage. He believes the decision of former party leader Douglas Ross to step into the race, which resulted in a close loss to the SNP, ultimately worsened the situation.
