Florida state representative Carolina Amesty, a Republican, has been indicted on four felony forgery charges related to her work at a private Christian school she ran with her family. Amesty, 29, turned herself in at the Orange County Jail after a grand jury found she forged a man’s signature on a document she notarized in 2021 while working as an administrator at Central Christian Academy. The alleged forgery occurred before Amesty was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. Each charge carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and $5,000 in fines. Amesty, who is running for re-election, denies the charges and claims the prosecution is politically motivated. The Florida Democratic Party has called for her resignation.
