Heavy rains in the Shahrasti Upazila of Chandpur, Bangladesh, have resulted in widespread flooding over the past 10 days, causing significant damage to crops and impacting the livelihoods of over 4,000 farmers. The flooding has submerged 341 hectares of land, affecting transplanted Aus paddy and other crops, as well as damaging transplanted Aman paddy seedbeds. The local agriculture department estimates the total damage to be around 64 million taka (approximately $750,000 USD). Farmers report substantial losses, with many describing the situation as the worst they have seen in decades. The flooding has left many farmers without income and facing significant financial hardship, highlighting the vulnerability of agricultural communities to extreme weather events.
