A family in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, is accusing the police of shielding the main suspects in a murder case. The victim, Pawan, was beaten to death on July 18th after a minor dispute with his neighbor, Harpal, and his associates. The family claims that the police are protecting Harpal and another suspect, Kalu, under pressure from a BJP leader. The family has alleged that the police have arrested six people but are failing to apprehend the two main accused. Following the death, the family staged a protest at the Brahmpuri police station, demanding justice and the arrest of the remaining suspects. They also demanded compensation and a government job for the victim’s family.
