A 30-year-old man in Ulsan, South Korea, has been sentenced to probation for repeatedly making false calls to emergency services, wasting police resources and creating unnecessary fear. The man, identified only by his last name A, was found guilty of making six false reports to the 112 emergency line over a two-hour period. A initially claimed to have witnessed a drug offender at a restaurant, prompting police to dispatch 11 officers to the scene. Upon finding no evidence, A continued to call the emergency line, demanding to know why the alleged offender hadn’t been apprehended. Later, A was involved in a hit-and-run accident after driving away from a restaurant while intoxicated. He then made four more false calls to the emergency line claiming he was a victim of a crime. For his actions, A received a sentence of one year and six months in prison, suspended for two years, and a fine of 600,000 won.
