The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has announced his intention to find a way around Hungary’s veto on €6 billion in EU funds destined for Ukraine. The funds are part of the European Peace Facility, a mechanism used by EU countries to reimburse costs associated with military aid provided to Ukraine. Hungary’s stance has drawn criticism, with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba highlighting the importance of unwavering financial support for Ukraine during the ongoing conflict. Kuleba also expressed concern about potential reductions in German support, following reports that Germany’s budget may not accommodate new funding requests for Ukraine’s defense. Borrell and Kuleba have emphasized the urgency of providing promised air defense systems to Ukraine in the face of recent Russian attacks. They underscored the potential for a well-equipped Ukrainian military to alter the course of the war.
