New car registrations in the European Union (EU) rose by 0.2% in July compared to the same month in 2023, reaching 852,501 units, according to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA). However, electric vehicle sales declined by 10.8% year-on-year, reaching 102,705 units. Last year, electric vehicles accounted for 13.5% of total sales, but this share has decreased this year. Germany and France saw a decline in new car sales in July, while Spain and Italy witnessed increases. Overall, from January to July, total sales rose by 3.9% compared to the same period last year, reaching 6,537,362 units. Volkswagen Group was the top seller in the EU in July, with 229,387 vehicles sold. It was followed by Stellantis Group, which includes brands like Peugeot, Fiat, Citroën, and Opel, with 137,120 vehicles sold.
