A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster has suffered a landing failure after its 23rd flight, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced. The booster, designed to land safely and precisely, lost balance, tilted to one side, and exploded shortly after touching down. The FAA is investigating the cause of the incident. The failure marked the end of a streak of 267 consecutive successful landings for SpaceX, dating back to February 2021. The company has released a video of the event, showing the booster’s dramatic demise. While the incident caused a setback, the Falcon 9’s second stage successfully deployed 21 Starlink satellites into orbit.
