Eight police officers in the Mexican state of Colima were arrested for allegedly collaborating with the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The officers, including one woman, were accused of providing sensitive information to the cartel, including manipulating surveillance cameras and falsifying reports. The arrests were the result of a six-month investigation by state and federal authorities, involving the Colima State Attorney General’s Office, the State Public Security Secretariat, the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the Federal Attorney General’s Office. The investigation continues and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more police officers being involved. This case highlights the concerning infiltration of organized crime into law enforcement agencies in Mexico, where bribes and threats can tempt officers to betray their duty.
