Egypt’s unemployment rate has decreased to 6.5% in the second quarter of 2024, down from 6.7% in the first quarter, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics. The news was shared by Egypt’s Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gebran, who highlighted the government’s role in driving this positive trend. The minister attributed the decline to an increase in the number of employed individuals and a decrease in the number of unemployed, resulting in a higher labor force participation rate. Gebran emphasized that the government’s focus on infrastructure projects and job creation initiatives, particularly since 2014, has played a crucial role in reducing unemployment. He pointed out that the unemployment rate had previously reached 13.3% but has significantly improved since then. The ministry is working to further support this positive development by developing vocational training programs, promoting employment policies, and integrating people with disabilities into the workforce.
