Hussam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, has stated that the United States is failing to play its expected role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Zaki criticized the US’s perceived bias towards Israel, which he believes is creating a major impasse. He emphasized that the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty is a fundamental pillar of regional peace and stability, noting that the agreement ushered in a new era of stability in the region. Zaki stressed that this treaty is not at risk and Israel cannot afford to jeopardize it, as it would threaten the peace between the two countries. Regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Zaki condemned Israel’s actions as purely retaliatory and tantamount to war crimes. He accused Israel of using the recent violence as an opportunity to eliminate Palestinian leaders and make life unsustainable in the West Bank.
