The Karnataka State Federation for the Disabled and their Guardians has called for a significant increase in the monthly allowance provided to disabled individuals in India. Currently, the allowance stands at a meager ₹300, which the federation argues is insufficient to meet basic living expenses. G.N. Nagaraj, the federation’s state president, highlighted the inadequate support for disabled individuals, stating that the central government has not increased the allowance since 2013 despite the significant growth in the national budget. He criticized the government’s inaction, emphasizing the need for a minimum monthly allowance of ₹10,000 to ensure a dignified living for disabled people. The federation also demanded employment opportunities and reservation in private companies for individuals with disabilities. Nagaraj further expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of regular disability grievance meetings, mandated by the government to be held every three months. He asserted that these meetings are crucial for addressing the concerns of disabled individuals and ensuring their welfare.
