Dead Fish Found on Crete Beach, Sparking Concerns

Dead fish were discovered by bathers on a beach in Sitia, Crete, on Friday, August 30th. The phenomenon on the beach in Crete, specifically at Petra, has sparked concern among locals, particularly in light of a similar incident in Volos in recent days, where an unprecedented number of dead fish were found trapped in the Xeria stream. Scientists have urged caution, recommending the cremation of the fish to prevent contamination of the aquifer. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered a preliminary investigation into the matter, as a blame game unfolds between relevant ministries, the region, the Port Authority of Volos, and the Municipality.
