Hungarian customs officers at the Röszke border crossing intercepted a German Mercedes carrying a stash of dermatological products. The discovery of syringes and ampoules didn’t require sophisticated equipment. However, in a separate incident, customs officials used imaging technology to detect 120 cartons of cigarettes hidden inside a truck. The German citizen attempting to smuggle the skin care products had simply placed them in a cardboard box in the car’s trunk without declaring them. The inspection revealed 42 boxes and 3 vials containing various anti-aging products. Due to the unauthorized import and transportation of medicine, the driver was reported to the Szeged Police Captaincy on suspicion of committing the crime of drug counterfeiting. A truck driver from Serbia was also apprehended for attempting to smuggle 120 cartons of Winston and 6 packs of Marlboro cigarettes hidden among flat-packed and ready-made furniture. The Serbian driver lost 1,809,000 forints worth of tobacco products. He is suspected of committing the crime of cost-sharing fraud. The offender may also face administrative penalties for the violation.
