The Chinese government has released a new policy to strengthen the country’s teacher workforce, emphasizing the importance of the ‘educator spirit’ and fostering high-quality, specialized teachers. This policy, released by the State Council, outlines plans to improve teacher training, education, and resource allocation. Currently, China boasts the world’s largest education system, with 18.918 million teachers across all levels. The new policy aims to elevate teacher qualifications, with a focus on increasing the proportion of teachers with bachelor’s and higher degrees. Key initiatives include implementing a comprehensive program to instill the ‘educator spirit’ throughout teacher training and education, fostering collaboration between universities and education institutions, and enhancing the quality of teacher education programs. Additionally, the policy aims to optimize teacher resource allocation, particularly for rural areas, through reforms in the ‘National Training Program’ and the ‘Special Post Program.’
