The Tamil Nadu government has approved the construction of a multi-modal transportation hub (MMFC) at Chennai’s Broadway bus station, incorporating the existing ‘Kuralagam’ complex. This project, costing ₹822.70 crore, aims to modernize the existing station and create a more efficient transport system for the city. The Broadway bus station, along with the nearby Golden City station, was initially constructed between 1960 and 1964, serving as a hub for long-distance buses. Over time, the station became overcrowded with various retail outlets, hindering smooth transportation operations. In 2002, long-distance buses were shifted to Koyambedu, leaving Broadway to cater to intra-city transportation. However, congestion and space limitations continue to be a challenge. This new project, spearheaded by the Greater Chennai Corporation, seeks to address these concerns by providing a modern, integrated transport facility for Chennai residents.
