Beresford Street Kitchen, a charity dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals with autism and learning disabilities, has announced the closure of its La Hougue Bie tea rooms. This decision comes as a result of rising costs and dwindling funding, a trend that has been impacting many charities across the island. The closure follows a similar trend in the third sector, with the Jersey Recovery College shutting down earlier this month and the Association of Jersey Charities expressing concerns about the future of the sector. Beresford Street Kitchen’s CEO, Gabby Ellmers, acknowledged the challenges faced by the charity due to economic pressures. While the tea rooms are closing, Ellmers expressed optimism about the charity’s core mission and its plans to revitalize its town cafe. She remains committed to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autism to achieve greater independence and employment opportunities.
