A new mall opening in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Johar neighborhood descended into chaos on Saturday after a crowd of shoppers, lured by the promise of free items, stormed the mall. The event turned into a stampede, with people scrambling to get their hands on free merchandise. The situation escalated when mall security, overwhelmed by the crowd, closed the doors, prompting an angry mob to vandalize the property. Police were called to the scene after the mall management failed to inform authorities beforehand. The incident caused major traffic jams in the area. SSP East Dr. Farooq Raza reported that some individuals instigated the violence after being unable to enter the mall and attempted to throw stones.
